Answer: Presentation Two ground-breaking socialist countries of twentieth century were Peoples Republic of China and Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. In the midst of the counter socialist countries it was normal that the two extraordinary forces would be close partners however the Sino-Soviet Split demonstrated that wrong.[1] There are different elements that affected the break between the USSR and China, yet in the accompanying conversation the attention will be on Mao Zedongs The Great Leap Forward being the essential power behind it. The starting point of the Schism The starting point of the split can be found in the Marxist hypothesis of socialism. The assembly line laborers of the twentieth century were given the extraordinary significance in the Marxist theory.[2] According to Marx the low class are the assembly line laborers who are equipped for appearing the ideal accomplishment against private enterprise. In 1917 the hypothesis was applied by some Marxist activists during Russian upset; the members were mostly manufacturing plant workers.[3] The Russians socialist pioneers needed the Chinese Communists to follow a similar strategy during the unrest of 1930s and 40s.[4] However the social structure of China was distinctive around then. The assembly line laborers of urban zone were to exist in China. This started the underlying distinction between both the countries socialist exercises. The Chinese socialist progressive pioneer Mao Zedong dismissed the proposition and concentrated on the provincial ranchers as the working classes of the prog ressive. The Soviet methodology towards socialist unrest has been attempting to turn into the prevailing unrest as most other Asian countries additionally needed urban laborers. The Maoist socialist technique was getting prevalence over Marxist-Leninist strategy in most Asian nations like Cambodia, Vietnam or North Korea. De-Stalinization After the passing of Stalin in 1953 the contention got more grounded. Mao Zedong spoke to himself as the main head of the worldwide socialist insurgency yet the recently chosen leader of USSR Nikita Khrushchev thought distinctively as he was the pioneer of a superpower country f that time. Following coming to control, Khrushchev began the procedure of De-Stalinization where he sentenced Stalins violations and came back to Socialism and Leninist principles.[5] However around then the universe of socialism was following the means of Stalin, so it influenced the notoriety of the countrys picture. Through the De-Stabilization process Khrushchev drives the socialist development towards a serene conjunction with the western industrialist world. This came as a stun of socialists transformation against the private enterprise and harmed the notoriety of the countries commitment to socialism. The recently evolved want to construct a relationship with the entrepreneur country energized to the c onflicts.[6] The Sino-Soviet Treaty of 1950 fundamentally happened in light of the regular reason yet the de-Stalinization by Khrushchev influenced the purposes.[7] De-Stalinization is against the customary Marxist-Leninist approach During 1950s china built up a monetary remaking effectively that supported Mao Tse Tung and Mao Zedong, the pioneers of the Chinese Communist Party to consider The Great Leap Forward which depends on exemplary Leninist Marxist technique and varied from Khrushchevs reformist approach.[8] This activist methodology towards financial advancement was created to increase innovative and monetary improvement at quick pace. The pioneers had little confidence over Soviet methodology towards money related, specialized and financial help to their country. This vulnerability was essential base for the task of The Great Leap Forward by the Chinese socialist pioneers. China needed to improve its automation and industrialization that was a long ways behind from most created countries. Khrushchevs approaches appeared to them no lined up with Chinas want and they likewise needed to defeat the political reliance. The Great Leap Forward was for the most part incorporated the most country and barely any urban zones. The task depended on two angles one is the collective development of the individuals and the mass steel crusade. Chinas want to become socialist superpower through Economic Development Mao Zedong needed the Peoples Republic China to turn into the socialist super force by supplanting the USSR. China has a conflicting stand against Khrushchevs relationship with Unites States of America in regards to the atomic force. China remembered the atomic force for their improvement plan and needed the Soviet country to assist them with achieving it. Anyway the USSR denied Mao to help in creating atomic weapon. Despite the fact that USSR and PCR were stills authoritatively partners yet the relationship inside weakened. Khrushchev inferred that Maos choices are destabilizing the country and on the opposite side Mao considered USSRs political methodology towards USA to be unreliable.[9] In the 1950s the USSR sent specialists to China who could help the nation in following the current soviet model to incorporate the countrys financial turn of events. The technique put more significance on the substantial business and gives less significance to the purchaser merchandise. Anyway in the second period of the decade began adjusting various plans to improve the socialist communism by activating the Chinese laborers. USSRs demeanor towards Capitalist countries Stalin had denounced Tito and the relationship with Yugoslavia which Khrushchev restored in the wake of coming to control. These de Stalinization strategies upset Mao. Mao was increasingly disposed towards the political belief systems of Stalin so the denouncement of specific approaches and standards infuriated Mao like the Cominform was created to facilitate activities among the different socialist gatherings under the direction of USSR, yet this was dismissed by Khrushchev.[10] The center political hypotheses by Marx-Lenin were deemphasized by him too. Khrushchevs activities to kill the war among communism and private enterprise so as to build up the conjunction made an incredible test for China. Mao Zedong actualized the arrangement after Civil War where the socialist countries were required to follow his international strategy which he created with the dread of American military intercession or Japanese Imperialism.[11] The various ways of Communism, Great Leap Forward served a medium As the socialist chiefs of China felt that the Soviet head is hampering the worldwide development of socialism militarily and ideologically, the help from the USSR is did not ensure anymore. In the Communist Party of Soviet Union of 1956 Mao Zedong proposed that all other socialist countries should take exercises from USSRs activities.[12] He accepted that China grow more in the communist street than his partner in not so distant future by taking item exercises from the Soviet country. Anyway it was at this point inconceivable for China to profess to be the pioneer in the communist region. Mao was setting up the country for an incredible financial improvement as he wanted to fall behind USSR. Mao reported that China would advance more than UK inside coming 15 years.[13] During the Khrushchev period, Mao really intended to outperform the USSR in the political and social development. So as to accomplish this objective Mao needed to change his methodologies and follow some different cou rses than the ones proposed by the USSR. The strategies that Mao actualized in the process are The Great Leap Forward.[14] The undertaking fused different changes in the local arrangements that were censured by the Soviet Premier. The fantasy of incredible monetary improvement has for quite some time been treasured by Mao. In 1956 Mao declared the comparative intend to exceed expectations the incredible industrialist nations inside hardly any years. His point was to build up an amazing communist society in China through three multi year plans. This arrangement reflected in the motto outperforming Britain and finding USA gave incredible persuasive solidarity to The Great Leap Forward.[15] The procedure was picking up collectivization in the countrys farming as the initial phase in accomplishing the extraordinary jump. In the event that the country accomplishes the underlying strategic, accepted the outperforming Great Britain and making up for lost time the USA would be emerged. Clea rly through the financial model Maos China would be outperforming Khrushchevs USSR. Mao had communicated in interior gatherings that following the Soviet Union methodologies indiscriminately. The socialist chief realized that the political situation of the nation was not the same as USSR and the labor was more grounded than USSR. Anyway there was a lot of analysis inside, remotely with respect to its future achievement. Mao addressed them by saying that Marxism was moving towards the eastern nations it has extraordinary potential make the proposed planes fruitful. Maos genuine aim was to outperform USSR strategically, mechanically and monetarily. Accomplishment of The Great Leap Forward, Threat to USSR The Great Leap Forward has just started however the community was at this point to be totally executed. The disappointment was expanding among the rich ranchers as they saw poor workers and homesteads lacking productivity are getting amalgamated.[16] However The Great Leap Forward through the cooperatives of the individuals exhibited the indications of a more prominent jump that can guarantee Chinas better situation in the realm of socialism. The soviet government office in China remarked that The Great Leap Forward is calculated appraisal yet when contrasted with the countrys existing economy the survey featured the administrations monetary ignorance. The Chinese socialist gathering in the Beidaihe meeting proclaimed that in not so distant future the partys plan of turning out to be incomparable socialist force will before long be genuine. Mao anticipated that China would change the creation relationship and along these lines the financial improvement of the nation would outperform the USSR. The collectivization was not the same as the current technique in USSR where aggregate homesteads were just centered around horticulture and their absence of association with industry didnt help them to travel into socialism totally. Pretend the ship represents America, with Lincoln as the captain. The crew symbolizes every citizen in the country and the rough waters epitomize the Civil War. Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered on April, 9th 1865 which effectively ended further unnecessary bloodshed. After billions of dollars in war damages/expenses and over 620,000 Americans had been killed the Civil War was finally over. Just six days after the official Confederate surrender, President Lincoln was shot dead by an assassinââ¬â¢s bullet. He had won the bloodiest war this country has ever seen and led the nation through the most tumultuous and divisive period of American history. The years that should have lied ahead of him would prove to be equally challenging. My prospectus paper will be focused entirely on the United States in the year 1865. Many important people and decisions were made in this span and I would like to discuss the impact that they made and how it effected the country as a whole. There are a few reasons why this time period is still one of the most written about subjects in our countryââ¬â¢s history. This four year war led to a couple huge amendments being added to Americaââ¬â¢s Constitution as well as the Emancipation Proclamation. DISCRETE MATHEMATICS Discrete mathematics is the study of mathematical structures that are fundamentally discrete rather than continuous. In contrast to real numbers that have the property of varying smoothly, the objects studied in discrete mathematics ââ¬â such as integers, graphs, and statements in logic ââ¬â do not vary smoothly in this way, but have distinct, separated values. Discrete mathematics therefore excludes topics in continuous mathematics such as calculus and analysis. Discrete objects can often be enumerated by integers. More formally, discrete mathematics has been characterized as the branch of mathematics dealing with countable sets (sets that have the same cardinality as subsets of the integers, including rational numbers but not real numbers). However, there is no exact, universally agreed, definition of the term discrete mathematics. Indeed, discrete mathematics is described less by what is included than by what is excluded: continuously varying quantities and related notions. The set of objects studied in discrete mathematics can be finite or infinite. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Applications of Discrete Mathematics" essay for you Create order The term finite mathematics is sometimes applied to parts of the field of discrete mathematics that deals with finite sets, particularly those areas relevant to business. Research in discrete mathematics increased in the latter half of the twentieth century partly due to the development of digital computers which operate in discrete steps and store data in discrete bits. Concepts and notations from discrete mathematics are useful in studying and describing objects and problems in branches of computer science, such as computer algorithms, programming languages, cryptography, automated theorem proving, and software development. Conversely, computer implementations are significant in applying ideas from discrete mathematics to real-world problems, such as in operations research. Although the main objects of study in discrete mathematics are discrete objects, analytic methods from continuous mathematics are often employed as well. Discrete mathematics is the branch of mathematics dealing with objects that can assume only distinct, separated values. The term discrete mathematics is therefore used in contrast with continuous mathematics, which is the branch of mathematics dealing with objects that can vary smoothly (and which includes, for example, calculus). Whereas discrete objects can often be characterized by integers, continuous objects require real numbers. The study of how discrete objects combine with one another and the probabilities of various outcomes is known as combinatorics. Other fields of mathematics that are considered to be part of discrete mathematics include graph theory and the theory of computation. Topics in discrete mathematics Complexity studies the time taken by algorithms, such as this sorting routine. Theoretical computer science includes areas of discrete mathematics relevant to computing. It draws heavily on graph theory and logic. Included within theoretical computer science is the study of algorithms for computing mathematical results. Computability studies what can be computed in principle, and has close ties to logic, while complexity studies the time taken by computations. Automata theory and formal language theory are closely related to computability. Petri nets and process algebras are used to model computer systems, and methods from discrete mathematics are used in analyzing VLSI electronic circuits. Computational geometry applies algorithms to geometrical problems, while computer image analysis applies them to representations of images. Theoretical computer science also includes the study of continuous computational topics such as analog computation, continuous computability such as computable analysis, continuous complexity such as information-based complexity, and continuous systems and models of computation such as analog VLSI, analog automata, differential petri nets, real time process algebra. Information theory The ASCII codes for the word Wikipedia, given here in binary, provide a way of representing the word in information theory, as well as for information-processing algorithms. Information theory involves the quantification of information. Closely related is coding theory which is used to design efficient and reliable data transmission and storage methods. Information theory also includes continuous topics such as: analog signals, analog coding, analog encryption. Logic Logic is the study of the principles of valid reasoning and inference, as well as of consistency, soundness, and completeness. For example, in most systems of logic (but not in intuitionistic logic) Peirces law (((PQ)P)P) is a theorem. For classical logic, it can be easily verified with a truth table. The study of mathematical proof is particularly important in logic, and has applications to automated theorem proving and formal verification of software. Logical formulas are discrete structures, as are proofs, which form finite trees[8] or, more generally, directed acyclic graph structures[9][10] (with each inference step combining one or more premise branches to give a single conclusion). The truth values of logical formulas usually form a finite set, generally restricted to two values: true and false, but logic can also be continuous-valued, e. g. , fuzzy logic. Concepts such as infinite proof trees or infinite derivation trees have also been studied,[11] e. g. infinitary logic. Set theory Set theory is the branch of mathematics that studies sets, which are collections of objects, such as {blue, white, red} or the (infinite) set of all prime numbers. Partially ordered sets and sets with other relations have applications in several areas. In discrete mathematics, countable sets (including finite sets) are the main focus. The beginning of set theory as a branch of mathematics is usually marked by Georg Cantors work distinguishing between different kinds of infinite set, motivated by the study of trigonometric series, and further development of the theory of infinite sets is outside the scope of discrete mathematics. Indeed, contemporary work in descriptive set theory makes extensive use of traditional continuous mathematics. Combinatorics Combinatorics studies the way in which discrete structures can be combined or arranged. Enumerative combinatorics concentrates on counting the number of certain combinatorial objects e. g. the twelvefold way provides a unified framework for counting permutations, combinations and partitions. Analytic combinatorics concerns the enumeration of combinatorial structures using tools from complex analysis and probability theory. In contrast with enumerative combinatorics which uses explicit combinatorial formulae and generating functions to describe the results, analytic combinatorics aims at obtaining asymptotic formulae. Design theory is a study of combinatorial designs, which are collections of subsets with certain intersection properties. Partition theory studies various enumeration and asymptotic problems related to integer partitions, and is closely related to q-series, special functions and orthogonal polynomials. Originally a part of number theory and analysis, partition theory is now considered a part of combinatorics or an independent field. Order theory is the study of partially ordered sets, both finite and infinite. Graph theory Graph theory has close links to group theory. This truncated tetrahedron graph is related to the alternating group A4. Graph theory, the study of graphs and networks, is often considered part of combinatorics, but has grown large enough and distinct enough, with its own kind of problems, to be regarded as a subject in its own right. [12] Algebraic graph theory has close links with group theory. Graph theory has widespread applications in all areas of mathematics and science. There are even continuous graphs. Probability Discrete probability theory deals with events that occur in countable sample spaces. For example, count observations such as the numbers of birds in flocks comprise only natural number values {0, 1, 2, . On the other hand, continuous observations such as the weights of birds comprise real number values and would typically be modeled by a continuous probability distribution such as the normal. Discrete probability distributions can be used to approximate continuous ones and vice versa. For highly constrained situations such as throwing dice or experiments with decks of cards, calculat ing the probability of events is basically enumerative combinatorics. Number theory The Ulam spiral of numbers, with black pixels showing prime numbers. This diagram hints at patterns in the distribution of prime numbers. Main article: Number theory Number theory is concerned with the properties of numbers in general, particularly integers. It has applications to cryptography, cryptanalysis, and cryptology, particularly with regard to prime numbers and primality testing. Other discrete aspects of number theory include geometry of numbers. In analytic number theory, techniques from continuous mathematics are also used. Topics that go beyond discrete objects include transcendental numbers, diophantine approximation, p-adic analysis and function fields. Algebra Algebraic structures occur as both discrete examples and continuous examples. Discrete algebras include: boolean algebra used in logic gates and programming; relational algebra used in databases; discrete and finite versions of groups, rings and fields are important in algebraic coding theory; discrete semigroups and monoids appear in the theory of formal languages. Calculus of finite differences, discrete calculus or discrete analysis A function defined on an interval of the integers is usually called a sequence. A sequence could be a finite sequence from some data source or an infinite sequence from a discrete dynamical system. Such a discrete function could be defined explicitly by a list (if its domain is finite), or by a formula for its general term, or it could be given implicitly by a recurrence relation or difference equation. Difference equations are similar to a differential equations, but replace differentiation by taking the difference between adjacent terms; they can be used to approximate differential equations or (more often) studied in their own right. Many questions and methods concerning differential equations have counterparts for difference equations. For instance where there are integral transforms in harmonic analysis for studying continuous functions or analog signals, there are discrete transforms for discrete functions or digital signals. As well as the discrete metric there are more general discrete or finite metric spaces and finite topological spaces. Geometry Computational geometry applies computer algorithms to representations of geometrical objects. Main articles: discrete geometry and computational geometry Discrete geometry and combinatorial geometry are about combinatorial properties of discrete collections of geometrical objects. A long-standing topic in discrete geometry is tiling of the plane. Computational geometry applies algorithms to geometrical problems. Topology Although topology is the field of mathematics that formalizes and generalizes the intuitive notion of continuous deformation of objects, it gives rise to many discrete topics; this can be attributed in part to the focus on topological invariants, which themselves usually take discrete values. See combinatorial topology, topological graph theory, topological combinatorics, computational topology, discrete topological space, finite topological space. Operations research Operations research provides techniques for solving practical problems in business and other fields ââ¬â problems such as allocating resources to maximize profit, or scheduling project activities to minimize risk. Operations research techniques include linear programming and other areas of optimization, queuing theory, scheduling theory, network theory. Operations research also includes continuous topics such as continuous-time Markov process, continuous-time martingales, process optimization, and continuous and hybrid control theory. Game theory, decision theory, utility theory, social choice theory | Cooperate| Defect| Cooperate| -1, -1| -10, 0| Defect| 0, -10| -5, -5| Payoff matrix for the Prisoners dilemma, a common example in game theory. One player chooses a row, the other a column; the resulting pair gives their payoffs| Decision theory is concerned with identifying the values, uncertainties and other issues relevant in a given decision, its rationality, and the resulting optimal decision. Utility theory is about measures of the relative economic satisfaction from, or desirability of, consumption of various goods and services. Social choice theory is about voting. A more puzzle-based approach to voting is ballot theory. Game theory deals with situations where success depends on the choices of others, which makes choosing the best course of action more complex. There are even continuous games, see differential game. Topics include auction theory and fair division. Discretization Discretization concerns the process of transferring continuous models and quations into discrete counterparts, often for the purposes of making calculations easier by using approximations. Numerical analysis provides an important example. Discrete analogues of continuous mathematics There are many concepts in continuous mathematics which have discrete versions, such as discrete calculus, discrete probability distributions, discrete Fourier transforms, discrete geometry, discrete logarithms, disc rete differential geometry, discrete exterior calculus, discrete Morse theory, difference equations, and discrete dynamical systems. In applied mathematics, discrete modelling is the discrete analogue of continuous modelling. In discrete modelling, discrete formulae are fit to data. A common method in this form of modelling is to use recurrence relations. Hybrid discrete and continuous mathematics The time scale calculus is a unification of the theory of difference equations with that of differential equations, which has applications to fields requiring simultaneous modelling of discrete and continuous data. evelynfowler1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/01555767810168325115noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1319549438389917924.post-88594426117899420152020-05-06T15:21:00.001-07:002020-05-06T15:21:20.286-07:00Impact Of Sustainability On The Environment - 1715 Words ââ¬ËSustainabilityââ¬â¢, a word which everyone is coming across more often than ever before in todayââ¬â¢s world. Yet, when it comes to defining and understanding this word, we observe various definitions and interpretations across people of various backgrounds. The question ââ¬ËWhat is sustainability?ââ¬â¢ can be compared with the question ââ¬ËWhat is life?ââ¬â¢. For some, life is a physical entity between birth and death, for others it the a non physical entity of way of living and so on. Similarly, Engineers, Architects, Doctors, Businessmen, Economists, Investors, Citizens, Politics, Environmentalists and people from various other domains have different interpretations and meanings of the word ââ¬ËSustainabilityââ¬â¢. Throughout the evolution of earth from a heavenly mass of fire to todayââ¬â¢s form, innumerable kinds of organisms have thrived on this planet, but none of them have ever influenced the planet as much as Humans are influencing, especially in last couple of centuries. Never has been such exploitation of natural resources and never was economy such important part of the society. Since industrial revolution, there has been rapid development in science and technology, communication, health, machineries, business models, consumption of energy, etc. The sense of security of life in terms of health, safety and luxury has been experienced by human beings like never before. This has led to exponential growth of population. Human population has thrived because of these factors in last 2 centuries. Before 200 years, global population was less than 1 billion, total it has cross ed mark of 7 billion and increasing at the rate of 250,000 new born babies will join world population daily(Ourworldindata.org). Charles Lazarus Biographical Information Essay Example For Students I. Charles Lazarus Biographical Information Essay Charles Lazarus, one of several children, was born on October 4, 1923. The Lazarus family lived in an apartment above their shop in Washington D.C. His father bought old, broken bicycles, repaired and painted them, and then sold them for a profit. Charles spent a great deal of time in his fathers bicycle shop when he was young. When he grew older, he helped his father fix the bikes and serve customers, as well as give input on how to improve the business. Charles didnt understand why their store didnt sell new bikes, and his father explained that larger stores could buy the bikes cheaper in large quantities and therefore could sell them at discounted prices. Charles often longed for his own store when he grew older. Lazarus was in his early twenties when he left the Army. He didnt want to go to college and knew only one thing: I wanted to work and I wanted to make money. Because of his ambitiousness and hard work ethics, Charles decided to go into retailing. It was his fathers example as well as his years spent in the bicycle shop that gave him much of his business training. II.The History of Toys R UsDuring the post war years of the late forties and early fifties, Charles Lazarus anticipated the baby boom because many soldiers were being discharged from the Army and were beginning to start families. In 1948, he borrowed $2,000 and started his first business, selling baby furniture. His first shop was 40 feet by 60 feet, filled with cribs and baby furniture. After two years of operation, Lazarus realized that many customers had been asking if he stocked baby toys, to which he always replied no. It was at this point that he realized the customers want toys.To begin with, Lazarus stocked only a few infant toys. As the customers kids grew and their needs became more varied, however, he began to sell tricycles, books, and a much wider range of toys. Charles first got the idea for a self-service supermarket while on a trip to New York. He recognized the efficiency of the supermarket grocery stores and decided to reorganize his store, modeling it after a supermarket. In his new reorganized store he had several different styles of an item in stock, as opposed to the one or two styles in his original store that had to be ordered from the company after a customer decided to purchase the item. Not only could he sell the items at a lower price to his customers and still make a profit, but also when a customer chose a particular item, he could deliver it immediately. He renamed his improved store to Baby Furniture and Toy Supermarket. Soon after the reorganization of his first store, Lazarus opened another one. He quickly realized that he would have to invest in training other people to manage the stores and keep them up and running. After deciding that the current name of his store still didnt convey an accurate description of what the store had to offer, which was now primarily toys, he renamed his stores to Toys R Us, with the R reversed. This became the distinctive logo for his company. In later years, Geoffrey the Giraffe would become the companys mascot, and would create a memorable, positive impression with shoppers. III. Toys R Us Current Status In the Market PlaceA. How Toys R Us Exists TodayToday Toys R Us is more successful than ever. With 700 toy stores in America and 441 international stores, they are the largest toy store chain in the world. Along with the Toys R Us toy stores, there are 215 Kids R Us stores in the United States, as well as 98 Babies R Us stores nationwide. The company is listed as common stock on the New York Stock Exchange (see Appendix) and as of March 10, 1998, had 31,700 stockholders on record. .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23 , .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23 .postImageUrl , .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23 , .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23:hover , .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23:visited , .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23:active { border:0!important; } .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23:active , .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23 .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uf71f8de8adaeb222a69283ac62677c23:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Critical Essay On Mary Shelley's FrankensteinB. Market Growth and Expansion StrategiesCharles Lazarus company developed many strategies to stay ahead in the market and of the competition, if any. The most important strategy was buying in quantity in order to sell at a discount. Toys R Us could buy items in large quantities at a discounted price per item because of the large volume. They could then turn around and sell the items to consumers for little above wholesale cost and still make a profit. Lazarus identified another main attraction for customers a large selection. He decided that if people knew that he had, for example, every different type of stroller available, t hey would come to visit his store and see the largest selection of strollers all in one place and save time. He bought not just one line, but everything, so that if a customer wanted to buy a stroller, they would have hundreds to chose from. Although customers only wanted to buy one stroller, they still wanted to see all the strollers that were available. Another way Lazarus figured out how to attract customers was to sell a standard, essential item at outrageous discount, especially in the non-holiday season. The item he chose was Pampers, and his stores are known for selling Pampers at rock bottom prices. However, in every Toys R Us store, the Pampers are located far away from the check out lines. Therefore, shoppers have to walk through the entire store before they can get to the diapers. When the shoppers, most likely with their children, pass all the merchandise, they are bound to leave the store with more than simply a package of diapers. Yet another important attraction for customers, as Lazarus found out, was having an adequate supply of an item the customer wanted. In other stores, a shopper might only find five of the items on his or her list. Therefore they would have to go to other stores to find the other items, which wasted too much time. By using a very complex computerized system, the inventory stays on pace with sales. This helps to reduce the chances of a customer not finding what he or she is looking for on the shelves. When a customer walks into our store with a list of ten items, we hope to have all ten, said Lazarus. C. Competitive MarketIn reality, Toys R Us really has no true competition. While several department stores and smaller toy stores located in shopping malls sell a respectable volume of toys, Charles Lazarus has clearly eliminated all competition. He explains, Department stores have such overhead that they simply cannot compete with what we are able to do. We can sell an item at a much lower price. What we have is more of a distribution system. What weve done more than anything else is to get the merchandise from the manufacturer to our register at the least possible cost. evelynfowler1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/01555767810168325115noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1319549438389917924.post-18966969381958459472020-04-09T07:54:00.001-07:002020-04-09T07:54:02.529-07:00Australasian Legal InformationAustralasian Legal Information Australasian Legal InformationEnglish: Legal Research Center at Lewis and secondary legal materials (law reform and royal commission reports).AustLII a seamless electronic access to primary and secondary sources of law, compared to books located through the conventional law library, is a highly desirable method for legal research. At the beginning of World War II, Americans feared that an enemy attack or sabotage could destroy our forest resources at a time when wood products were greatly needed. In the spring of 1942, a Japanese submarine fired shells onto an oil field in Southern California near Los Padres National Forest. Government officials were relieved that the shelling did not start a forest fire but were determined to provide protection. The USDA Forest Service organized the Cooperative Forest Fire Prevention (CFFP) Program in 1942. It encouraged citizens nationwide to make a personal effort to prevent forest fires. It was a mobilized civilian effort in support of the war effort to protect valuable trees. Timber was a primary commodity for battleships, gunstocks, and packing crates for military transport. Character Development Walt Disneys Bambi character was very popular and was used on an initial anti-fire poster. The success of this poster demonstrated that an animal of the forest was the best messenger to promote the prevention of accidental forest fires. On August 2, 1944, the Forest Service and the War Advertising Council introduced a bear as their campaign symbol.ââ¬â¹ Albert Staehle, noted illustrator of animals, worked with this description to paint the forest fire prevention bear. His art appeared in the 1945 campaign, and the advertising symbol was given the name Smokey Bear. The bear was named Smokey after Smokey Joe Martin, who was Assistant Chief of the New York City Fire Department from 1919 to 1930. Rudy Wendelin, an artist for the Forest Service, began producing a tremendous quantity of Smokey Bear art in various media for special events, publications, and licensed products to promote the fire prevention symbol. Long after retiring, he created the art for the Smokey Bears 40th anniversary commemorative U.S. Postage stamp. Many within the Forest Service still acknowledge Wendelin as being the true Smokey Bear artist. The Ad Campaign After World War II, the War Advertising Council changed its name to The Advertising Council. In the years that followed, the focus of Smokeys campaign broadened to appeal to children as well as adults. But it was not until the 1965 campaign and the work of Smokey artist Chuck Kuderna that Smokeys image evolved into the one we know today. The Smokey Bear concept has matured into a cottage industry of collectibles and educational material on fire prevention. One of the most popular Smokey products is a set of posters known as his educational poster collection. The Real Smokey Bear Smokey Bears living history began early in 1950 whenà a burned cub survived a fire in the Lincoln National Forest near Capitan, New Mexico. Because this bear survived a terrible forest fire and won the love and imagination of the American public, many people mistakenly believe the cub was the original Smokey Bear but, in reality, he did not come along until the advertising symbol was almost six years old. After being nursed back to health, Smokey came to live at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. as a living counterpart to the CFFP Programs fire prevention symbol. Over the years, thousands of people from around the world came to see Smokey Bear at the National Zoo. A mate, Goldie, was introduced with the hope a young Smokey would continue the tradition of the famous living symbol. These efforts failed and an adopted son was sent to the zoo so the aged bear could retire on May 2, 1975. After many years of popularity, the original Smokey died in 1976. His remains were returned to Capitan and rest beneath a stone marker in Smokey Bear Historical State Park. For more than 15 years, the adopted Smokey carried on as the living symbol, but in 1990, when the second Smokey Bear died, the living symbol was laid to rest. Smokeys Detractors Smokey Bears task is becoming increasingly difficult. In years past, it was a challenge for his message to reach traditional visitors to the forest. Now we are faced with getting his wildfire prevention message to an increasing number of people who live in and around these areas. But Smokey the Bear may have done too good a job. There are some who suggest that we have eliminated fire to the point that it is hurting not only forest management but is building fuels for future fire disaster. They dont want Smokeys message out anymore. Charles Little, in an editorial called Smokeys Revenge, states that in many circles the bear is a pariah. Even at the National Zoo in Washington DC, which tends to be inclusive, the popular Smokey Bear exhibit was quietly dismantled in 1991 - after having featured since 1950 a bear going by this name (involving two separate animals). The point is, Smokeys ecological correctness quotient is low, as an increasing number of forest ecologists have been pointing out in recent years. We anthropomorphize at our peril. Another good essay was written by Jim Carrier for High Country News. It gives a humorous but somewhat cynical view of Smokey. Currently, I actually have five ideas in mind that has been thought of as virtually interesting. These ideas are categorized as follows: (1) seeing animals in fantasy; (2) cultural and social influence and impact of social networking sites, particularly Facebook; (3) the claw game; (4) life within the womb; and (5) exploring the dark. For the first idea, one finds illustrating animals in fantasy as thought provoking and would entail a lot of innovative and creative talent. For the wild animals, I have envisioned them being transformed to tame animals: taking away everything that makes them wild or the strength that helps them attack. For instance, one sees the lion opening his mouth and his teeth are like baby teeth; the elephants will be petite; the eagle flying without sharp claws and brick; the frog without a long tong to catch the insects; and the bear without sharp nails and sharp teeth. What one believes that it would be an interesting concept for the human being ability to approach these previously wild animals and accept them as regular part of everyday life. On the other hand, I see parallel transformations for the tame animals as well as evolving into free and independent animals: for example the turtle will be free from its shell and will be able to move without it faster - not needing to be hidden anymore; so as the snail and the deer would not need to worry if the lions are around. And other animals wonââ¬â¢t be hiding under a rock or in a cave and at the end of this short animation, there is a scene when a deer is running and escaping from a lion who is trying to attack and suddenly what the lion really wanted was to lick the deerââ¬â¢s face. Wonder of all, the deer opens its eyes and realizes that it was all a dream; but a dream that came true. The wild and tame animals are not anymore segregated and start running and playing with ea ch other in a unified world. For the second idea, the source for the plot is oneââ¬â¢s cultural background and experience. I think it would be interesting to depict the social anxieties and struggles contemporary generation face from social networking sites, particularly Facebook. This idea focuses on cultural response and reaction to social networking. One envisions a local community where each member lived in a tranquil environment. A simple teen-ager in her own room posts pictures of favorite celebrities on her wall (a wall very similar to Facebook) where friendsââ¬â¢ updated statuses, memorable events, places that were visited could be viewed as frequently as one intends to. However, since she considers this a magical wall, she covers it and hides it from people. Somehow, the secret is revealed and people coming knocking on the door and they come just to look at the wall. This girlââ¬â¢s wall is then compared to other girls within the community who has not discovered th e secret to the magical wall. Their lives could be seen as conservative, boring, but not subject to prying eyes. People who discovered the magical wall have posted all things about them and their friends which were revealed in their entirety to the community. There are diverse reactions ranging from awe, amazement, curiosity, embarrassment, frustration, hate, anger and eventually despair and being isolated. evelynfowler1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/01555767810168325115noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1319549438389917924.post-9935815010002626932020-02-05T20:28:00.001-08:002020-02-05T20:28:03.482-08:00The comparison of the Macroeconomic State of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia EssayThe comparison of the Macroeconomic State of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia for the years 2005 and 2011 - Essay Example Services include offshore banking, Islamic banking, insurance and tourism (CIA, Bahrain). The major contributors to the GDP according to their value addition are listed in the table below (CIA, Saudi Arabia): 2005 2011 Agriculture 3.3% 2.1% Industry 74.7% 67.6% Services 21.9% 30.4% The major agricultural products of Saudi Arabia are wheat, dates, citrus fruits, barley, melons, dairy and poultry. The major industries in Saudi Arabia are crude oil production, oil refining, petrochemical industries such as fertilizers, ammonia production, caustic soda production, plastics, metal processing, aircraft and ship repair, constr uction etc. Comparison Bahrainââ¬â¢s GDP is markedly smaller than that of Saudi Arabia given the geographical size of both nations and the amount of oil and gas reserves. Saudi Arabiaââ¬â¢s GDP displays more of agricultural input compared to Bahrain while it has a larger industrial sector. In comparison, Bahrain has a larger service sector when compared to Saudi Arabia. Services Bahrainââ¬â¢s service sector is composed primarily of financial organisations such as off shore banks, Islamic banks, insurance companies and the like. Oil production has supported the growth of such financial service sectors that link Bahrain to the rest of the region financially. In addition, Bahrainââ¬â¢s service sector displays public utility companies, telecommunications firms,...This paper seeks to compare the economies of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia on a macroeconomic scale and to identify recent trends by performing comparisons for the years 2005 and 2011. Bahrain exhibits one of the highest GDP growth rates around the world given its small population and rich revenue streams. Mainly the economy depends on the export of processed oil and aluminium. Also, Bahrain exports finance services as well as construction materials. Saudi Arabia hosts one of the worldââ¬â¢s largest oil and gas reserves with estimates ranging up to one fifth of all proven reserves on earth.. The economy of Saudi Arabia depends in large part on oil processing and exports as well as goods derived from crude oil. Diversification is in the air but has yet to yield economically significant results. Saudi Arabiaââ¬â¢s GDP displays more of agricultural input compared to Bahrain while it has a larger industrial sector. In comparison, Bahrain has a larger service sector when compared to Saudi Arabia. For both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, the major export item is essentially mineral products (crude oil, refined and processed oil etc.) contributing to around 90% of all exports for both nations. In addition, it is noticeable that the next largest export for both nations is chemical products In terms of the import structure, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia are well differentiated since Bahrain imports crude oil in order to refine and process. Saudi Arabia major import items are machinery and transportation equipment. In terms of the larger picture, Bahrain shows greater GDP per capita compared to Saudi Arabia though its macroeconomic structure is more heavily government owned, regulated and controlled. evelynfowler1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/01555767810168325115noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1319549438389917924.post-69638422539832975572020-01-28T12:34:00.001-08:002020-01-28T12:34:07.020-08:00The difference between Project Finance and Corporate FinanceThe difference between Project Finance and Corporate Finance Companies across the world frequently employ Project Finance for their large investments. Their importance is underscored by the following fact: Though US corporations used Project Finance less often than their overseas counterpart, 1 their savings of $34 billion in Project Finance in 2004 exceed the $25 billion that business enterprise capital funds invested in startups in that year, and was concerning half the $73 billion raise by US companies from side to side IPOs in the similar year (Esty, 2005). While academic research in finance has provided a lot of insight into business enterprise assets financing and IPOs, Project Finance has conventional scant notice.2 an obvious query arises: What factor drive the option of Project Finance vs Corporate Finance? 3 As Esty (2003a) points out, Project Finance involve important costs compare to Corporate Finance.4 What are the offsetting payback then of Project Finance vs Corporate Finance? Why 64% of huge investments were finance through Pro ject Finance in the French lawful source countries while this proportion was 26% in the English legal origin country? In other terms, how do the lawful and institutional surroundings in a country shape this option of Project Finance vs. Corporate Finance? This paper attempt to fill a number of these gaps in our in sequence. Two major contributions We create two major contributions. First, to our information, our paper is the primary to formally examine and empirically document the reimbursement of Project Finance vs Corporate Finance. Second, we supplement the law and finance journalism (see references below) by presentation a micro channel from side to side which lawful origin could have an effect on economic outcome from side to side the stipulation of saver defense to decrease decision-making agency outlay. Esty (2003b) argues casually that Project Finance reduce the group costs of free cash flow encounter in Corporate Finance:The first incentive to use Project Finance, the agency cost motivation, recognize Those sure assets, namely large, tangible possessions with high free cash flows, are susceptible to costly agency conflicts. The creations of a project company provide a chance to create a new, asset-specific ascendancy system to lecture to the disagreement between possession and control. . . Project Company utilizes co mbined possession and high influence to dishearten costly organization conflicts in the middle of participant. Two distinguishing characteristics of Project Finance vs Corporate Finance However, it is indistinct precisely how Project Finance operates to alleviate these association costs while other shape of finance cannot. For example, why cannot corporations affect domination systems particular to the nature of their property, or utilize joint possession and influence to alleviate these agency expenses? What is it about Project Finance as different to Corporate Finance that reduce agency conflict? We build up a simple replica to shed light on this query. We emphasize two distinguishing characteristics of Project Finance vs Corporate Finance: (a) improved verifiability of cash flow, and (b) lack of option to sponsors cash flows and assets. We quarrel that the verifiability of cash flow in Project Finance stem from contractual preparations made probable because of a solitary, discrete project that is lawfully alienated from the sponsor, and the resultant nonattendance of future growth opportunity in the Project finance Company. Since Corporate Finance involves multiple present and future projects, the similar contractual preparations cannot be effect in Corporate Finance. Therefore, cash flow is less demonstrable in Corporate Finance than in Project Finance, chiefly in countries where the protection against executive self-dealing is weaker. Project money due is also non-recourse: the lender does not have alternative to the sponsors property or cash flow. Corporate Finance Thus, in Corporate Finance, the lender has a potentially improved pool of cash flows from which to get paid. Since Project Finance company are first and leading debt economics (Esty, 2005), we implant the choice Of Project Finance versus Corporate Finance in a reproduction of debt financing comparable to that in Hart (1995). Since the pool of property and cash flows is better, but less provable, in Corporate Finance, creditors human rights play a more important role in Corporate Finance. Specifically, the lenders believable threat to seize security matters more with Corporate Finance, where cash flow are less demonstrable and borrower opportunism is therefore more probable. The threat of insolvency serves to deter this opportunism. Furthermore, Project Company invests in solitary, discrete property. Therefore, tradeoffs between inefficient continuance versus unproductive liquidation that arise from the attendance of future increase opportunities and typify bankruptcy in Corporate Fin ance (see Gartner and Scharfstein, 1991) are not present in Project Finance. Thus, ex-post inefficiencies created in insolvency affect Corporate Finance additional than Project Finance. Given these two reasons, i.e., the higher probability of opportunistic non-payment and the assistant inefficiencies from bankruptcy, we model non-payment in Corporate Finance but theoretical from the same in Project Finance. Of course, the lenders threat to pay debt assets is credible only if the insolvency laws in the country allow the lender to seize the security assets. Therefore, we take for granted that the lender can seize possessions with a higher likelihood if the bankruptcy laws give creditors stronger human rights. Further, we take for decided that insolvency values in bankruptcy are lower if the burden costs in bankruptcy are senior. Given this setup, we get hold of the subsequent result. In countries where insiders can confiscate minority investor more easily, Project Finance is more probable than Corporate Finance. In exacting, in such countries, Project Finance is excessively more probable than Corporate Finance in industry where Free Cash Flow is higher. To appreciate better this difference-in-difference prediction, think two industries: Drugs and Cement. Given the lack of important investment 2 opportunity in Cement when contrast to Drugs, the organization price of free cash flows would be higher in Cement than in Drugs (Jensen and Heckling, 1976, Jensen, 1986 and Blanchard, Loped- Silanes and Shleifer, 1994). Since Project Finance mitigates these organization costs by making cash flows demonstrable, ceteris paribus, the dissimilarity in the use of Project Finance in Cement versus that in Drugs would be better in Venezuela than this dissimilarity in the United States since the laws defensive managerial self-dealing is stronger in the United States than in Venezuela. Project Finance loans We give empirical confirmation supporting this forecast by comparing, across forty country,Project Finance loans next to Corporate Finance loans from the Loan Pricing Corporations Dealscan database. To limit our analysis to those Corporate Finance investments where scheme Finance is a viable option, we comprise loans to corporations under the category of equipment Purchases, capital expenditures, gaining of assets or company, and takeover. To capture differences crossways countries in the protection provided to investors against managerial self-dealing, we use the index of confidential control of self-dealing construct by Djankov, LaPorta, Lopez-de- Silanes and Shleifer (2006) (hereafter, DLLS) . These directory events the hurdles that the controlling saver in a firm must bound in order to indulge in a self-dealing business. In the spirit of our reproduction where ex-ante financing outcome are affected by the ex-post probability of a sponsor/manager being wedged self-dealing, we focu s on DLLSs gauge of ex-post confidential manage of self-dealing. We go after Opler and Titman (1993) and Lang, Stulz, and on foot (1999) in proxying agency expenses of free cash flow by means of the ratio of Free Cash Flow to Assets. Since our most inclusive disaggregated data is at the 4-digit SIC business level, we build this calculate for the middle firm in a 4-digit SIC manufacturing in a country. We use several empirical stipulations: controls for the legal source of state, fixed effects at the country, manufacturing, and year levels, and chance effects at the height of each industry in each country. We discover that in country that provides weak defense to alternative investors against expropriation by insiders, Project Finance is moderately more probable than Corporate Finance in industries where the ratio of Free Cash Flow to Assets is superior. If we contrast two industries for which the ratio of Free Cash Flow to Assets is one normal deviation apart, then a one standard deviation diminish in the ex-post personal control of self-dealing increase the probability of Project Finance in the industry with superior free cash flow by 5% more than in the manufacturing with lower free cash current. Since Project Finance is 25% probable on standard in our example, this 5% increase in the dissimilarity in likelihood of Project Finance represent a 20% change over the model average. W e also find that Project Finance is more possible in countries with weak guard against executive self-dealing; a one standard difference decrease in the ex-post confidential control of self-dealing increase the probability of Project Finance in a country by 14.5%, which represent more than a 50% enlarge over the example average of 25%. Project financial mode: Fig 1: Project finance model (Estry, 1999). Capital Structure theory The effect is economically significant too: A one point increase in the strength of creditor rights decreases the marginal effect of weaker protection against self-dealing by 32 %. We investigate further as to which component of the creditor rights index affects this choice between Corporate Finance and Project Finance. In line with our model, we find that in countries with no automatic stay imposed on the collateral assets in bankruptcy, the effect of managerial self dealing is mitigated. The other components of the DMS creditor rights index do not matter here. In the strongest piece of evidence supporting our theory, we consider this interaction effect between creditor rights and managerial self-dealing for the treatment sample of countries where creditor rights underwent a change during our sample period, and the control sample of other countries. As predicted by our model, we find that the decrease in the rights provided to creditors in our treatment sample enhanced the marginal effect of ex-post private control of self-dealing on the choice of Project Finance. Thus, we infer from our cross-country evidence and from the within country changes in creditor rights that laws protecting minority equity holders from managerial self-dealing and rights provided to creditors in bankruptcy are marginal substitutes in mitigating agency conflicts. Finally, our model predicts that larger deadweight costs incurred in bankruptcy increase the likelihood of Project Finance. As argued above, bankruptcy costs are lower in Project Finance than in Corporate Finance since project companies invest in single, discrete assets. Features of project Finance To examine the robustness of our above result to various source of endogeneity at the industrylevel, we go after Rajan and Zingales (1998) in employ the center Free Cash present to Assets for US firm at the 4-digit SIC urbanized level as an tool for our cross-country measure. The profusion of a business and the resulting level of free cash current is partially a purpose of the technical aspect of the developed as well as the life-cycle phase of the manufacturing. Therefore, we wait for the free of charge cash run for US business to be linked with the cross-country calculate.6 Furthermore; the practice of Project Finance is 19% in the US in dissimilarity to 53% for the obtain it easy of the earth. Therefore, the US developed level compute of Free Cash run to Assets make happy the two supplies needed to serve as an active uneven. As physically influential evidence of our theorys forecast, we obtain the identical consequences to the higher than by means of this caught up changeable. A second forecast of our model is that the creditors skill to seize the firms property upon Default, as well as those placed with him as security, mitigates the consequence of weak protection against administrative self-dealing, since the lender can resort to the assets ex-post in the face of self-dealing. Therefore, when stronger protection is provide to creditors, the effect of weaker defense against decision-making self-dealing in hopeful Project Finance is excessively lower. To proxy the legal rights of creditors across the world, we use the creditor rights directory (a score between 0 and 4) construct in Djankov, McLiesh and Shleifer (2005) (hereafter, DMS). A senior value for the DMS creditor rights index indicates stronger rights to creditors. Across our entire rider, which include chance effects at the country level, and fixed possessions at the year level, we find that the coefficient of communication between guard against self-dealing and creditor rights to be optimistic. evelynfowler1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/01555767810168325115noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1319549438389917924.post-29138976920652035942020-01-20T08:58:00.001-08:002020-01-20T08:58:03.446-08:00Business Marketing :: GCSE Business Marketing CourseworkBusiness Marketing Four basic categories define the business market: 1. The commercial market 2. Trade industries 3. Government organizations 4. Institutions Commercial markets include individuals and firms that acquire goods and services to support, directly or indirectly, production of other goods and services. Example: When Lufthansa buys aircraft built by the European consortium Airbus Industry, when Sara Lee purchases wheat to mill into flour for an ingredient in its cakes. Trade industries include retailers or whole sellers that purchase products for resale to others. Example: retail meat markets may carry out bulk purchases of sides of beef and then cut individual pieces for their customers. Institutions include a wide range of organizations, such as hospitals, churches, nursing homes, colleges and universities, museums and not-for-profit organizations. Example: state universities. Government organizations include domestic units of government- federal, state, and local as well as foreign governments. Example: national defense or pollution control. Q2. What are the characteristics of the commercial market? Show how each characteristic affects the marketing strategies of firms serving that market. The commercial market is the largest segment of the business market. It includes all individuals and firms that acquire goods and services to supports directly or indirectly, production of other goods and services. Some products aid in producing another good or service. Others are physically used up in the production of a good or service. Still others contribute to the firms day to day operations. Q3. What are the SIC codes? How do the marketers use these codes? Standard Industries Classification codes are the US government classification system that subsides the business market place into detailed market segments. Businesses use SIC code data for more then segmentation. These codes also help them to estimate the demand and forecast sales. Q4. Contrast organizational buying behavior and consumer purchasing behavior. What are the primary differences and similarities? Business buying behavior takes place with in a formal organization with its budget, costs and profit considerations. The primary differences include excessive organizational steps, considering budget, costs, prioritizing techniques for purchase decision analyses. Where as, consumer-purchasing behavior includes knowledge of business buying situations and is influenced by peers and ads. Q5. Give examples of the effect of industrial market demand of derived demand, volatile demand, joint demand, inventory adjustments, and the accelerator principal. Derived demand: Demand for a business product that results from demand for a consumer product of which it is a component. Example: The growing global demand by food service firms for packs of Heinz ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc. is all driven by consumerââ¬â¢s appetite for their convenience and joy of dining out. evelynfowler1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/01555767810168325115noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1319549438389917924.post-25234657428705187982020-01-12T05:22:00.001-08:002020-01-12T05:22:02.741-08:00Fall of the House of Usherââ¬Å"The Fall of the House of Usherâ⬠by Edgar Allen Poe is a story riddled with deeper meanings than the superficial plot line and analogies to draw. With the first read through, the story seems quite confusing in a sickly twisted sort of way, but upon further reading, it becomes clear that there are meanings hidden deep down in the plot. There are many comparisons that can be made in this story but the most obvious one would be the connection between the lives of the characters and the house in which they dwell.Poe does a good job at purposely confusing the reader as to whether he is talking about the literal house of Usher or the metaphorical house of Usher. The literal house is described as being in rough condition, with a crack from the top of the house to the bottom. It has tarn around the outside of it and is in a general state of disrepair. As Poe describes how the literal house of usher is nearly ready to crumble, he also speaks of the metaphorical house of Usher. The metaphorical house of usher is also ready to crumble. This is because the house of Usher was inbred, leaving all of its members except two diseased.Roderick Usher and Madeleine Usher were the only two Ushers left in the line of Ushers, and they were both very ill. Madeleine suffers from fits that render her immobile, and appearing dead. Roderick on the other hand has heightened senses and is acutely aware of every tiny last detail that is happening around him. Both Roderick and Madeleine are on the verge of death and it is only a matter of time who goes first. This can again be related to the literal house of Usher because due to the fissure running down the foundation of the house, it is only a matter of time which side collapses first.Poe does a good job at creating a sense of claustrophobia in the house by making it seem small and difficult to navigate. He also creates a sense of mental claustrophobia within the narrator by making the narrator unable to get away from the literal and figurative house of Usher. In the end of the story, when Madeleine breaks out of her tomb and kills Roderick, this is the fall of the metaphorical house of Usher, because after this point, there are no more ushers seeing as they have both died.As soon as the narrator flees the madhouse, this is the fall of the literal house of Usher. Immediately after the narrators departure from the house, the fissure from the top to the bottom of the house enlarges and the house literally collapses. It is clearly seen throughout Poe's story that both the literal and figurative houses of Usher are meant to have a nearly perfect parallel plot throughout the entire story. The literal house collapses, as does the figurative, and they both collapse in the same way. evelynfowler1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/01555767810168325115noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1319549438389917924.post-73134242097071496652020-01-04T01:46:00.001-08:002020-01-04T01:46:02.400-08:00How to Clear Your Mind - Unclog Your Brain - Relax Sometimes we can get so caught up in the stress and worry of our personal lives that our minds become too jumbled to operate effectively. This is especially dangerous in a test-taking situation. After hours of reading and studying, our brains can lock up in a state of overload. In a stressful situation, itââ¬â¢s often necessary to clear your mind completely to allow your brain to refresh itself and recalibrate all ofà its functions. But when youââ¬â¢re tense, clearing your mind isnââ¬â¢t so easy! Try this relaxation technique if you think your brain has seized up from information overload. 1. Set aside at least five minutes for quiet ââ¬Å"clearingâ⬠time If youre at school, see if you can put your head down somewhere or find an empty room or quiet space.à If necessary, set a watch (or phone) alarm or ask a friend to tap you on the shoulder at a designated time. 2. Think of a time or place that puts you into a complete state of peace This place will be different for different people. Have you ever sat on the beach watching the waves come in and realized youââ¬â¢ve ââ¬Å"zoned outâ⬠for awhile? This is the sort of experience youââ¬â¢re looking for. Other experiences that make us zone out could be: Sitting in the dark and staring at Christmas tree lightsââ¬âremember how quiet and peaceful that feels?Lying in bed late at night listening to good musicLying on your back on a cool day watching clouds roll by 3. Cover your eyes and go to your ââ¬Å"placeâ⬠ââ¬â¹ If you are at school preparing for a test before class, you may simply rest your elbows on the desk and put your hands over your eyes. For some people, it may not be a good idea to put your head down. (You might fall asleep!) Use all your senses to make your experience as real as possible. If you are thinking of a Christmas tree, imagine the smell of the tree and the look of the layered shadows on the walls. Donââ¬â¢t let any thoughts creep into your head. As soon as you start to think about a test problem, clear away the thought and concentrate on your peaceful place. 4. Snap out of it! Remember, this is not nap time. The point here is to rejuvenate your brain. After five or ten minutes of clearing time, take a brisk walk or take a drink of water to re-energize your mind and body. Stay relaxed and resist the urge to think about the things that are stressing you out or clogging your brain. Donââ¬â¢t let your brain go back to freeze-out. Now go forward with your test or study session refreshed and ready! evelynfowler1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/01555767810168325115noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1319549438389917924.post-2130248603047881152019-12-26T22:10:00.001-08:002019-12-26T22:10:04.208-08:00A Balanced Psychology and a Full Life Essay - 1152 Words Summary: This article is written by Martin E.P Seligman, and is largely about the modern interpretations of happiness and the way psychology has been dealing with improperly by only looking at how to minimize pain and not maximize happiness. He starts the article by recounting some of history of psychology that led to the current state of affairs, beginning at World War 2. He claims that right before WW2 there were 3 main objectives to psychology: curing mental illness, making untroubled people happier, and studying genius/talent. These all fell by the wayside after WW2 however as all of the funding began to flow towards the study of mental illness, not towards the study of mental health. This was mainly becauseâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This can be true even if the method to achieving this is itself unpleasant. The third method is revolves around using your strengths to gain a sort of gratification that is greater than oneself. This is called meaning, where we strive for something higher that ourselves in order to gain a lasting purpose in life. The third section of this article is about methods to nurture the three routes to happiness. Seligman starts by saying that different interventions have been developed for each route and are also in the process of testing. Preliminary results would suggest that it is possible to increase a personââ¬â¢s happiness level and that these effects do not fade immediately after the tests. He stresses that these tests (a few of which he describes in detail) are for increasing happiness and not for just decreasing suffering. He ends the article by talking about his optimism and goals for the future of his discipline. He stresses the idea of balancing the field of psychology, saying that this will happen when there is no longer a distinction between positive psychology and regular psychology. Human nature signifies the set of principles that define how mankind operates on a daily basis. Generations have often debated the nature of man, with both optimistic and cynical views. Government represents the organized structure that controls man. In Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes advocates for an absolute monarchy to keep citizens well behaved because man is inherently self-interested. John Locke, on the other hand, depicts in Second Treatise of Government that a bipartite political society is the ideal form of government because we are in a state of nature and are free to do as we please. Hobbes theory that absolute monarchy is the best form of government because man is in a constant state of war is a sound assertion because humans have conflicting desires that create a state of war, humans form government to alleviate the state of war, and absolute monarchy provides the most efficient means of providing security that is absent in a state of war. Hobbes articulates a ââ¬Å"materiali stâ⬠view of man, which asserts ââ¬Å"life is but a motion of limbs,â⬠(Leviathan 3) and that all men are composed of the same materials. It thereby follows that men, or simply matter in motion, desire the same things because they are composed of the same things. Manââ¬â¢s similarities go beyond merely his composition. France and Britain competed for domination of the Sugar Trade. By 1655, Britain was the biggest sugar trader. France passed Britain as the biggest Caribbean sugar trader in 1740 (ii). Sugar Trade was driven by many factors. Some of which are capital, slavery and complementing industries. Money was, and still is, very important. Sugar was even called white gold by British colonists during the slave trade (ii).In Bittersweet: The Story of Sugar, Peter Machines states that the first curse of sugar is capital intensive, meaning a lot of money. Money was used to buy the slaves that grew the sugar that people also purchased. Land also had to be bought in for sugar plantations (Doc. 7). Wealthy English families owned most of the sugar plantations themselves. Therefore, outside investors were not usually involved. Document seven shows that four of the larger sugar plantations were owned by absentee owners that were either rich or their families was rich. The British used the mercantile system to buy raw materials, or slaves, at low prices and make the materials into finished goods and sell them at high prices. This system helped England to have more money coming in, rather than out and resulted in national wealth that led to national power (Doc. 12). Some say sugar drove the slave trade; others say slaves drove the sugar trade. In reality, the slave trade became entwined with the sugar trade (ii).Slaves were needed on the plantations; they did all of the work. Planting and cutting sugar canes were only two of the jobs they had to do. They also had to take the canes to the crushing mill and boil the cane juice (Doc. 8). As the slave population grew, more sugar was produced. Document ten states that in Barbados in seventeen twelve, there were 42,000 slaves and 6,343 tons of sugar produced. By seventeen ninety-two, there were 64,300 slaves and 9,025 tons of sugar produced. As time went on, the prices of slaves went up.The average purchase prices for adult male slaves in the British Caribbean were about eighteen pounds more than on the West African coast, according to document nine. If not for complementing industries, the sugar trade might not have been so successful. Sugar was used as a sweetener in drinks such as tea and coffee. Hot tea became the most important nonalcoholic beverage in Britain (Doc. 4). If tea was not created, there would have been less of a demand for sugar. Sugar is not the only exotic import that came with complementing industries.Slaves were bought along with many different goods. Powder, bullets, iron ND copper bars, and some East India goods are only a few of the goods trade with slaves (Doc. 11). With this in mind, the sugar trade was the end Of one era, and the beginning of another. The way everyone lived their day to day life was changed. Africans became slaves, Europeans became addicted to sugar, chocolate, and tea, and the natives of the Caribbean were losing their land to Europeans for sugar plantations (ii). Capital, slavery and complementing industries were a few of the factors that drove the slave trade. evelynfowler1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/01555767810168325115noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1319549438389917924.post-72944856994741553752019-12-03T02:24:00.001-08:002019-12-03T02:24:03.332-08:00Othello And Much Ado About Nothing Essay free essay sample , Research Paper The two scoundrels in? Much Ado About Nothing? and? Othello? portion much in common, despite their legion differences. It is apparent that Shakespeare framed the 2nd piece of literature to be similar to the first. Although shorter, the secret plan of? Othello? is decidedly more complex. The scoundrels play a major portion in the novels, and are really much alike in their line of thought. The comedy, ? Much Ado About Nothing? depicts the narrative of a group of high-level soldiers who travel through a town called Messina. They had been to the town before, and this clip Claudio confesses his love for the governor? s girl, Hero. Because Leonato is so affectionate of Claudio, the nuptials is set to be a few yearss off. This gives Don John, Claudio? s bastard brother, a opportunity to demo his true hatred for Claudio. He comes up with a strategy to do Claudio think that Hero is rip offing by dressing Margaret in her vesture and perching her near the window with another adult male. The following twenty-four hours Claudio does precisely as he had said, degrading Hero in forepart of all her household and friends. Because she did non rip off on him, she did non anticipate that sort of reaction. She is so dejected that she faints, and everyone assumes she is dead. Finally Borrachio is overheard speaking about Don John? s program, and Don John is arrested. Later Claudio learns that Hero is non really dead, and they are eventually married. ? Othello? ? s Iago is really much similar to Don John. He wants to acquire retaliation on Othello for non being chosen as lieutenant and besides suspects that Othello has slept with Emilia. Somehow Iago manages to pull strings Othello into believing that Desdemona cheated on him. When he demands that she show him the hankie he had given her, and she does non, he is convinced that she is being unfaithful. This is when he decides that he must kill her. Later in the fresh Othello suffocates Desdemona out of covetous Y. The scoundrels of both novels contain an remarkably big figure of similarities. Both Don John and Iago are determined to interrupt up the cardinal relationships of the two novels. Iago tricks Othello for retaliation, Don John out of sheer hatred for Claudio. The asshole brother goes through a period where he acts really pleasant toward Claudio, and Iago seems to be the ally of Othello throughout the full piece. Both Don John and Othello used unsuspecting adult females to interrupt up the chief characters. Don John used Margaret and Iago used Emilia. Finally, both scoundrels are strong egoists. Don John shows it in the manner that he does non interact with the other characters. Iago believes that Othello is much excessively trustful, and respects no 1 but himself. Although Shakespeare meant to make these two evil characters likewise, there are a few differences between them. Don John set up Claudio utilizing other people to convert him. I go used his manipulative speech production and marbless, along with Othello? s fleeceable nature to convert him. Don John and Iago caused the two chief characters to take different methods of retaliation on their adult females. Othello killed Desdemona in a covetous fury, whereas Claudio simply humiliated Hero. Iago seeks retaliation on Othello for two grounds: he suspects Othello slept with Emilia, and he besides despises Othello for taking Cassio as lieutenant alternatively of him. One concluding and echoing difference between Don John and Iago has to make with the yesteryear of each character. Shakespeare portrays Iago as an intelligent and sometimes caring character until Othello purportedly wrongs him. On the other manus, Don John has more of an evil aura about him, and shows his hate for Claudio right from the start. Overall, the characters of Don John and Iago are really similar, although the latter is much more intelligent and complex. These two work forces are what draw the reader? s attending to the novel, and portion so much in common that the two apparently unrelated plants are read in tandem invariably. 34c evelynfowler1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/01555767810168325115noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1319549438389917924.post-88970200965710704602019-11-27T09:52:00.001-08:002019-11-27T09:52:04.605-08:00Boychiks in the Hood Something That the World Needs to Know about the Jewish Culture. A Book ReviewBoychiks in the Hood Something That the World Needs to Know about the Jewish Culture. A Book Review It is weird how little the rest of the world knows about Hasidic Judaism. Living in their own world, detached from the rest of the people and at the same time living side by side with other nations and adepts of other religions, the adepts of Hasidic Judaism have been a mystery for the Western world for years. With the help of his book, Boychiks in the hood, Robert Eisenberg has managed to shed some light on the mysterious branch of Judaism.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Boychiks in the Hood: Something That the World Needs to Know about the Jewish Culture. A Book Review specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The classification of the Hasidic Judaists provided by Eisenberg is quite impressive. Of all the types that he mentions, there are four ones deserving special attention. The first one to be mentioned is secular Zionism. Needless to say, this is a secular type of modern Jews, even though they are related to the Zionis t teachings. However, the author also describes a number of religious types of Jews that he has come across in his travels around the world. First and foremost, the Satman Jews must be mentioned, mainly because of the impact that they have had on the development of the Jewish culture, as well as on the world perception of the latter. According to what Eisenberg says, ââ¬Å"What Pat Buchanan is to the Republican Party, Satmans are to other Hasidimâ⬠(Eisenberg, 1996, 2). Another type of religious Jews that Eisenberg mentions in his book is the so-called Ultra-Orthodox Hasidic population, or Haredi. Finally, among the present-day types of religious Jewish communities, the Lubavitchers, also known as Chabad, should be mentioned. Though there are no major distinctions between the traditional Judaism and the Lubavitcher sect, it is noteworthy that the first adepts of the given branch of Judaism believe that joy and love is the only possible way to cognize the wisdom of Torah. Takin g the most detailed account of how modern Jewish communities are organized, Eisenberg has come up with his idea of what the future of some of these Jewish communities might be. Unfortunately, some of the forecasts leave much to be desired. For example, the fate of the Harvard Haredi community seems not quite clear at present, given the instances of racism towards the Jewish population that have been spotted several times over the past few years. Another example of a Jewish community that might possibly face complexities in the future is the diaspora of the Lake Oybegone in Postville, Iowa. Living in a Jewish suburb on the outskirts of Everycity, this community seems extremely cosmopolitan, which can possibly lead to the loss of national identity. Mixing with other cultures, the members of the community might lose their roots, Eisenberg warns. Another Jewish community that is bound to face rapid changes is the Minnesota Jewish diaspora. Finally, the essay ââ¬Å"Bungalow Summerâ⬠describing the Jewish diaspora in the Catskills, New York, must be mentioned. Seeing how the given community is completely ultraorthodox, one can expect that it will most likely cling on to the traditional way of life, and that it will not face major transformations even when the rest of the Jewish communities in the U. S. will have to change.Advertising Looking for essay on american literature? Let's see if we can help you! The Uman community is most likely to develop further on; however, the acculturation and, therefore, the fusion with the Ukrainian culture are inevitable. The Dombrova diaspora, however, is likely to become even lesser in number, since the Dombrova ghetto is practically isolated from the rest of Poland. Moreover, Eisenberg claims that the Jewish population is going to increase; hopefully, this will mean that the Jewish people will become closer to each other and that all over the world, Jewish people will be able to become a much stronger community. As Eisenberg explains, in the future, it can be expected that the Jewish communities in the United States, as well as in the USA, will develop into larger and more influential diasporas. To be more exact, the following changes can be expected. It can be considered that the Finally, it is necessary to mention that at present, the Ultra-Orthodox Jewish community is obviously experiencing a rapid and increased growth, which can be attributed to the fact that the ideas of Torah have been widely accepted by more and more people not only in the USA, but also all over the world. That said, it is clear that the Yiddish language is the final frontier that must be held to keep the national integrity intact and at the same time encourage even more people to accept the postulates of Hasidism. It is also worth mentioning that, according to Eis enberg, Ultra-Orthodox Jews use Yiddish as their national language, which means that they relate to Yiddish and that it has become a part of their vision of national culture. Of course, the fact that the book about the modern Jewish culture was written by a person who has relatively little to do with the given culture might get a few sidelong glances. The style, details and, which is the most important, passion, which the boom as written with, however, make Boychiks in the hood an interesting read at least; at most, these characteristics turn the book into a peculiar perspective on the life of the modern Jews, their culture and traditions. Though the book has its flaws, one must give the author credit for his attempt to offer his broad audience an introspective into the Jewish culture. Therefore, Boychiks in the hood is definitely worth checking out. Reference List Eisenberg, R. (1996). Boychiks in the hood: Travels in the Hasidic underground. Computations refer to addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You should have an understanding of simplifying fractions and calculating common denominators prior to adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. Multiplying Fractions Once you remember that the numerator refers to the top number and the denominator refers to the bottom number of a fraction, you are on your way to being able to multiply fractions. You will multiply the numerators, then multiply the denominators and will be left with an answer that may require one additional step: simplifying. Lets try one: 1/2 x 3/41 x 3 32 x 4 8Therefore the answer is 3/8 Dividing Fractions Again, you need to know that the numerator refers to the top number and the denominator refers to the bottom number. In the case of division of fractions, you will invert the divisor and then multiply. Put simply, turn the second fraction upside down (this is called the reciprocal) and then multiply. Lets try one: 1/2 x 1/31/2 x 3/1 (we just flipped 1/3 to 3/1)3/3 which we can simplify to 1 Notice that I began with Multiplication and Division? If you remember the above, you wont have much difficulty with those two operations as they dont involve calculating the like denominators. However, when subtracting and adding fractions, were are often required to calculate the like or common denominators. Adding Fractions Whenà adding fractions with the same denominator, you leave the denominator as it is and add the numerators. Lets try one:3/4 9/413/4 Of course, now the numerator is larger than the denominator so you would simplify and have a mixed number:3 1/4 However, when adding fractions with unlike denominators, a common denominator needs to be found prior to adding the fraction. Lets try one:2/3 1/4 (the lowest common denominator is 12)8/12 3/12 11/12 Subtracting Fractions When subtracting fractions with the same denominator, leave the denominator as it is and subtract the numerators. Lets try one:9/4 - 8/4 1/4However, when subtracting fractions without the same denominator, a common denominator needs to be found prior to subtracting the fraction. Lets try one:1/2 - 1/6 (the lowest common denominator is 6) 3/6 - 1/6 2/6 which can be reduced to 1/3 There are times when youll simplify the fractions when it makes sense. evelynfowler1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/01555767810168325115noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1319549438389917924.post-27280835351213148662019-11-21T05:29:00.001-08:002019-11-21T05:29:11.201-08:00Discuss the reasons why activity-based costing may be preferred to EssayDiscuss the reasons why activity-based costing may be preferred to traditional absorption costing in the modern manufacturing environment - Essay Example This paper discusses the various reasons why most firms use activity-based costing methods over the tradition absorption method. There are mainly two costing methods used by companies in different manufacturing environment that include absorption and activity-based costing techniques (Needles, Powers and Crosson, 2011). The Modern Manufacturing Environment involves the use of modern technology in the manufacturing industry. The use of technology enables organisations to reduce the cost of labour and increase production rates. In addition, modern manufacturing environment entails production of large volumes of goods at a cost, which promotes the companys profitability. The primary characteristics of a modern manufacturing environment include the following. First, the manufacturing environment entails an intense competition internationally. Most of the firms that operate on modern manufacturing environment experience high levels of competition on an international platform. For example, companies operating in the automobile industry experience great competition internationally, which require them to reduce production cost in order to initiate cost, based competition strategies (Lembersky and Lembersky, 2005). Secondly, the modern manufacturing environment involves rapid innovation in production. Production innovation is essential in establishing cost effective production methods such as automation of the production line and use of digital systems to reduce the cost of power and labour (Frost, 2005). Thirdly, the environment involves the use of automated machinery, which minimises the cost of labour. Automation of the production line ensures that most of the operations of the company rely on technology, which reduces the cost of production (Lembersky and Lembersky, 2005). Finally, production in a modern manufacturing environment involves evelynfowler1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/01555767810168325115noreply@blogger.com0
